Crafting for a Cause
Do you love to craft but can’t justify spending money on supplies for crafts that you don’t need or can’t use? Are you interested in finding more people like you? Crafting for a Cause is a social club with the purpose of members volunteering to utilize their interest and skills in crafting for the benefit of Mental Health America of Porter County, a non-profit organization.
Meetings are held monthly to discuss new ideas, tips and tricks, learn a new craft, or use the time to make a craft.

The purpose of Crafting for a Cause is to build a social group and connection with community members based on a common interest in crafting and volunteering. Social connection and community integration are important parts of mental wellness, the mission of our organization. Craft projects will be directly utilized in our programs, given to persons in need, or used in fundraising for craft supplies and the agency as a whole.
How are craft projects benefiting Mental Health America of Porter County?
There are many ways that these projects will benefit our agency. Projects such as refurbishing Open Door Social Club furniture would lengthen the life-span of the furniture. Some crafts (such as blankets and baby hats) may be given to people in need building awareness for our organization. Some crafts may be used in fundraising for the organization.
What kind of projects will we be making?
Projects will be discussed by the club with Grace (Director of Programs) making the final decision based on available materials, cost, and ability of club members. Grace has knowledge of crochet, up-cycling small furniture, and various small crafts so the first project will be something she knows so Grace can explain it to club members who don’t have any experience with that project.
Do we have to buy the materials or pay to participate?
No. Materials for projects will be provided by the agency with the understanding that finished projects are to be kept for use of the agency.
Do I have to know how to make crafts?
No. Craft projects will be chosen so that at least one club member or Grace knows how to make the craft and can teach it to you. We do encourage you to share any craft or project ideas that you know.
Can I craft at home and then donate what I make?
Yes. We highly encourage everyone to come to club meetings but not all crafts have to be made during the club meeting. Meetings are held to learn about new projects and to have time to work on projects.
